Wheel throwing is mesmerizing to look at, and at first glance might look easy, but only a very few will be able to sit down at the throwing wheel for the first time, and center that piece of clay and make the perfect bowl. It takes practice, but fortunately the fun and payoff outweighs the beginning frustration by tonnes!

WHEEL THROWING

We focus on each student’s individual level and wishes in our wheel throwing classes, and all steps of the proces are demonstrated and explained, so no one is left behind. So if you have never touched a piece of clay (or maybe once or twice back in the day), or if you know the basics of wheel throwing, but need to practice a bit more, our classes are perfect for you.

Besides wheel throwing, you will also be glazing your own handmade pieces in our weekly classes, with our own unique in-studio made glazes you won’t find anywhere else. In our one-day and weekend classes, we do this step for you. When the pieces are glazed, we fire them so that you can bring them home approximately 4 weeks after the class is over!

ORIGINAL
Let’s Clay CONCEPT:

LET’s
MAKE A MUG

Enjoy a relaxing, fun and creative couple of hours by yourself or with family and friends.

Every week we hand throw a selection of mugs for you to personalize and make into your own favorite coffee or tea mug.

This is how it works:
1. You pick one of the hand thrown mugs we have prepared for you. There will be different sizes and shapes to choose from!

2. The cups are still soft enough for you to carve into the clay to make patterns, quotes, sweet messages, names or the like.

3. Sculpt a dragon to put on your cup to keep your morning coffee hot, or keep it simple with adding a perfectly fitting handle.
There are no rights or wrongs.

4. The Let’s Clay team will finish your piece by color glazing your master piece in the color of your choice from our awesome glaze selection, before firing it about 4 weeks later.

BABY’S
HAND AND FOOTPRINT

Capture how cute and tiny your baby’s hands and feet are with an imprint or two.

Choose whether you’d like the imprint made onto a traditional wall hanger in high quality white porcelain, onto a hand thrown stoneware cup, bowl or vase, or a few of each.
Prices from 350-750 DKK.

Our studio offers a relaxing atmosphere with plenty of time and room, and we have toys, blankets and changing tables for the small ones, and coffee, tea and snacks for you.

The Let’s Clay team will help you to make sure the imprint turns out as well as possible, and will also handle the cutting, name stamping, glazing and firing.

We also welcome groups.

If we’re being honest, it takes a bit longer than one set of classes to master this wonderful craft.

Once a week we open our studio for former students to practice their newly learned skills on their own.

FOR FORMER STUDENTS:

OPEN STUDIO

There are no strings attached - you book one of our throwing wheels one day at a time, for a fixed price, and only pay a bit extra if you want your pieces fired. You have full access to our studio, tools, everything - except for glazes, as we will be glazing your pieces for you, in the colors you choose from our glaze library.

There will be no teaching during Open Studio, but one of us will be around to answer any questions and help you find what you need.

If you have been working with ceramics for only a while, you will probably only have worked with premade store bought glazes, and that’s perfectly fine! But why not learn how to make your own, truly unique looking glazes from scratch - and at a fraction of the cost?

SPECIAL CLASS:

GLAZE CREATION

These special classes will teach you anything you need to know about glazes, what they are made from, how and why they react the way the do, how to mix raw materials from a recipe, and probably most excitingly, how to start making your own!

Each class will differ depending on your experience level, but every student will go home to their studio more confident in working with glazes on their own.

The classes are taught with practical exercises founded in theoretical walkthroughs of everything we encounter, from glaze chemistry, faults and errors when glazing and how to correct them, firing schedules and atmospheres and much, much more.

SPECIAL CLASS:

HAND BUILDING

If you like unique, organic shapes, you should try out one of our hand building classes. In these classes you will learn how to build and sculpture your own unique ceramics, using a variety of different techniques, such as ‘pinching’, ‘coiling’, ‘slab building’ and more.

These techniques allow you from the get-go to have control over larger amounts of clay, and make more organic jars, vases and bowls, than you would from wheel throwing.

You will also learn different ways and techniques to decorate your ceramic pieces, so it’s completely up to you what you want to make, and what expression you want it to have!

These classes are offered as mixed classes for both beginners, intermediate and advanced students.

When your work is done, we will glaze and fire them, so that you can bring them home approximately 4-6 weeks after the class is over.
